The UCELLS paper titled “Sensing Ultra-Low-Power Radio Signals by Photonic Analog-to-Digital Conversion” accepted in the European conference ECOC 2009 is presented on 24th September 2009 in Vienna, Austria. The paper is a joint activity with UPVLC, DAS photonics, IMST and Instituto de Telecomunicações of Lisboa (IT) and other UCELLS partners summarizing the results obtained in the demonstrator experiments during the first year of UCELLS project.
The European Conference and Exhibition on Optical Communication (ECOC) in its 35th edition is hold in Vienna, Austria, on September 20-24, 2009. This conference is the most important European conference covering optical communication and is a leading forum for presenting the results of current scientific work. More information regarding the conference can be found in its website www.ecoc2009.org
In this paper, the time-stretched photonic analog-to-digital converter with engineered optical and electrical amplification is proposed to sense ultra-low power signals for cognitive radio applications. This technique enables a commercial-off-the-shelf E-ADC to detect a radio carrier with peak amplitudes down to 24.975 µVp (-65 dBm) with 20.84 dB signal-to-noise ratio. The paper will be presented by Dr. Roberto Llorente on Thursday, 24 September 2009, in session 10.4 concerning Advanced Techniques for Access in Room G.
